Old School Friday: Vanilla Child

Happy Friday and welcome back OSFers (that sounds obscene, doesn’t it?)!

For the first installment of Old School Friday, we are paying homage to the one and only Teena Marie, who died over the Christmas holiday. I grew up with two aunts who introduced me to her music, and I’ve been in love with her voice ever since.

I am choosing two of my very favorite Teena Marie songs: Deja Vu (I’ve Been Here Before) and Square Biz. Enjoy!

I thought about posting both Deja Vu and If I Were a Bell. She had a voice on her, and I’ve heard she was also a beautiful person.

    Happy OSF!

I always play If I Were A Bell, I don’t know what it is about that song, but it just speaks to me. Square Biz definitely reminds me of the old parties, and the first song Deja Vu is just so beautiful.

I really love her slow songs better than her fast songs. I don’t know why, but I guess it’s because you can really here her upper range.

Happy New Year Ms Marva! Hope all is well. What a wonderful way to kick off OSF 2011 with a tribute to Ms. Teena. I’m loving your pics! SjP

If I were a Bell, and Deja Vu are 2 of favorites by Teena Marie! They are definitely in the top 5!! I was never really that crazy about Square Biz, it was a cool jam but I was more of a slow groove type of person.
I actually had my OSF already scheduled but it fell right in with the theme!
She had a voice that was unparalleled to anyone else! She will be missed, but her music lives on!
