So I was flipping back and forth between the NBA game (what the fuck, Cleveland?) and the BET “Anybody Can Be A Rapper” awards last night. I wanted to catch Jay’s performance (missed it), and Luda (caught that), but most of all, I wanted to see the Cyphers.

If you love Hip-Hop like I used to love her, then you know what a cypher is. You know that this is where it all stems from: the flows, the prose, the jabs to your gut that make you throw your hands up and wish you could go like this. Hip-Hop cannot be learned; it is inbred and it takes up your whole soul. That is what these three showed when they basically shut everybody down, and let all who were within hearing distance who the real ones are.

Mos, Black Thought (oh, LAWD!), and Em…pay attention, all you young wannabe’s. This is what it is supposed to be.

everybody else was a a distant lightyear memory after these dudes, for real. mos def is criminally underrated with his lyrics and flow, and even when em first came out years ago i was praising him, letting everybody know that yt definitely had it!
  • I so agree with you...after viewing this, I am reminded of how Hip-Hop is supposed to make me feel. This was classic!
  • I did not watch since I HATE all things BET, but watching the vid let me just say that Black Thought is SICK!! OMG! Man, oh man, I liked Em & Mos Def too but Black Thought ~SMH~ ...!
  • Man, Regina...when this came on, I was so glued to the tv! And when I heard Thought, I went bananas! This dude makes me want to find him, for real.

    For REAL!!! LOL...
