There are times when I see and hear things that absolutely make my blood boil. Those seem to be more and more frequent these days…and when this story popped up, so did my temper.

Watch the video first:

Yes, it was a private pool. However, they advertise OPEN memberships. And in their rules of operation found here, they certainly do not specify any rules about what types of members they allow…it is not outlined. In fact, their rules are fairly general and are akin to rules that you find at most pools, as I have witnessed when taking my own child to private pools.

That means that their decision to kick these kids out is based on their skin color, and nothing else. And that is infuriating…and sad.

It is infuriating because if you buy into what the media tells you, we are supposed to be living in a post-racial world. If anything, we have had to be more aware of racial issues than ever, because it is pushed into our faces more and more every day. It is infuriating because children should NEVER be treated this way, no matter their skin color. They are the innocents in all of this…simply looking for recreation and having to pay the price for adult prejudice. It is infuriating because now, these children will have to carry this memory with them for the remainder of their lives, always pointing back to this day as a reminder that their color separates them from everyone else.

It is not sad in the traditional sense, but sad that we are still here in 2009. It is sad that in this day and age, people still hold on to prejudices and racist beliefs that should have been proven wrong a long time ago. Ignorance is denying the truth that is right in front of you; skin color does not make you better than anyone, nor does the color of your skin make you inferior to anyone.

So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. ~ Acts 10:34-35

Peace and blessings…

  • This frightens me because it seems as though instead of making progress towards a truly equal world we are crashing back into the stone age.

This is inexcusable. I am beyond anger, I am sad for the state of humanity and truly scared for the fate of mankind.
  • I wrote about this yesterday in depth as well at BlogHer. MsLadyDeborah left a great comment saying she wouldn't trust her children to people like that.

I hadn't seen anything this blatantly racist ignorance, fear of catching black in a pool, since desegregation struggles. Now Valley Swim Club is claiming the membership is diverse and the members opinions are not the club's. Then how do they explain the "complexion" quote from the club president? Even if it's changed to the word "atmosphere," he's still saying the same thing.
  • Philadelphia is an extremely racist city and I'm telling you segregated still. The whole thing is bullshit - they accepted the money for 60 kids but when they got their they decided there were too many of them, they say...ha, it was because they were African American. No matter what they say that was the reason and it disgusts me. With ugly ignorant white people all over the place and their little white ass kids pissing all in that pool those kids are probably better off, believe me I know my ugly little white ass cousin piss in their pools all the time, but it breaks my heart and make me ashamed for this country.
