There is lots of talk about this movie, Precious. Most of what I’ve read has been about Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey’s association with it…why must it be about that? Why can’t it be that these two people saw something good in this movie and put their power (wherever that power came from) behind it because it is a movie that needs to be seen? Regardless of whether you like them or support them, realize that they are the epitome of what happens if you believe. But this isn’t about them.

This is about Precious. On O’s show yesterday, she previewed the trailer for this movie and I cried. At the trailer. There is something in this movie that is scratching away at me; I haven’t figured out what yet. That is the scary part. I think that is why this movie is important; because there are little girls out there who have hidden something deep and dark within them that needs to be released. They are losing their souls to abuse and not realizing the beauty within them. They don’t realize that being beautiful comes from within.

And because so much of our lives are dictated by movies and television and music, when a movie comes out that can show a story of redemption, a story of finding who you are, then I want to scream from the rafters my support. I don’t think there is a stronger or more important film being released in our time for our sisters. We need this. If for nothing more than to cry out whatever pain we have tucked away in the corners of our beings.

  • Don't think I'm going to see the movie. Enjoyed the book. I'm not in a good place right now so unless it's action, sci-fi, comedy or romantic comedy I'mnot going ot see it.

I tell you I doggone near cried my eyes out at the trailer. It's going to be rough going to see this one, but I will support quality Black film anytime I can. I know I'll be a wreck after watching it.
  • I can't wait to see "Precious". I haven't read the book, and I think I'll wait to see this before I read "Push".
  • I always like to read the book before seeing the movies...to see if I can see the differences...

The book is HEAVY...and the movie looks just as much so.
  • We are thinking alike, on Monday I plan on blogging about the book. I love the book. It is so good. Actually it is rather sad.
And I am going to mention the movie too.

You already know I am excited about the movie.
  • I pulled the book out of my closet to read it again...it burned me to my core when I read it the first time, and there are tear stains on the pages...but I'm going to read it again.

    I'll look for your post...
