Happy Old School Friday, y’all! The theme for this Friday is “Songs with Baby in the Title.” Hmm…

This is the first rap song that I learned the words to in their entirety, because it told me a story. I was reeled in by the pure poetry of the lyrics, and the heartbreaking reality of the words. This is the song that made me want to know who this young soldier was, and once I found out, I was hooked forever.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you…Brenda’s Got a Baby by Tupac.

  • I'm doing mine later tomorrow. I certainly hope to see you back soon.
  • And it's still true today. If this were a competition, I'd say you've won it with this selection because it's packed full of message, reality not romance, and it's not the first kind of selection to come to mind when you think of songs with "baby" in the title. It's also a selection that reminds people why we still remember Tupac. :-) Happy OSF!
  • Wow! Happy OSF.
  • I love this song. Great choice! Happy OSF!!

Thanks for this. The Stanky Leg came on the radio the other day and made me think how much I miss Pac...
  • Awesome pick! Tupac was a talent, sometimes misguided & tortured but talent none the less. Today's rap is basically garbage...
  • Nope, not posting songs about anything that requires a diaper!

I did go with the other definition of "baby" and Baby, Have I Got Some Retro For You Today!"
  • You just had to play the Tupac card. I see you with your bad self. You just can't top Brenda's Got A Baby!

this is probably my fave tupac song ever. great choice.
  • Now that is what I call thinking outside the box. Tupac is the bomb! Happy OSF!
  • One of the reasons why I loved Pac as an artist. For every 'gangsta' track there was one with a message and one that was pure entertainment. He is sorely missed...
  • Verite Parlant speaks for me as well. Very thoughtful, original, and we did not see it coming. Very interesting take on the theme. Happy OSF.
  • This is one of my jams! I knew I would see it somewhere and I always here this when I got to baby showers and play that "baby" in the song game!
