books

Ms. Regina tagged me with this little meme…good thing too, because I was about to jack it from someone and do it on my own!

I started reading at age 3, and since then you probably will not see me without a book in my hand. I’m one of those folks who carries a book wherever she goes, just in case I have to wait and there is a chance that I get to read a couple of lines. I love a good book, and if I find an author that I like, well…I read soak up everything they write.

With that said, here is my list, in no particular order:

  1. Alice Walker
  2. Bebe Moore Campbell
  3. Laura Ingalls Wilder (don’t laugh; I loved Little House on the Prairie)
  4. C. S. Lewis
  5. Judy Blume
  6. Alex Haley
  7. Terry McMillan
  8. Roderick O. Solomon
  9. Maya Angelou
  10. Michael Eric Dyson
  11. Pearl Cleage
  12. E. Lynn Harris
  13. Toni Morrison
  14. Nikki Giovanni
  15. Sapphire
  16. Tananarive Due
  17. Colin Channer
  18. Tina McElroy Ansa
  19. Octavia Butler
  20. Iceberg Slim
  21. James Baldwin
  22. Richard Wright
  23. Ralph Ellison
  24. Zora Neale Hurston
  25. Edwidge Danticat

This was harder than it looked! I started and ended up with 42! What whittling I had to do…anywho, I’ve seen this on many a blog, so I’m not tagging anyone. Take it if you wish!

Stay real…

    Hi right back atcha!!!

Oh I loved Laura Ingalls...I recall reading and rereading those books so much...my copies were so worn out!

  • There was a point in time when I could quote those books...seriously! LOL...
  • I love the list. I did laugh at Laura Ingalls Wilder but I've never read her, and they say ignorance often breeds laughter.
  • We could do a battle of appreciation here! LOL...

You are welcome, both you and Manchild...and I thank you.
  • Marva, all I can say is "WOW!" (You'd think I don't know any other superlatives.) My husband is speechless (it's never happened before)! We so appreciate your encouraging words. I know I've come many, many times and have been encouraged and inspired by your words. And you are an inspiration, yourself, to many. Thank you, again, for the beautiful honor. We appreciate you and value you for all you do here.
  • KWiz - It's so nice to hear from you!

I've been waiting for either one of you to come by and see this list...you don't know what an inspiration both he and you have been to me...it is the very least I can do to offer my support in any way that I can!
  • Me too! I don't think I would have made it through preteen-hood without her books!
  • Wow Marva...I saw my husband's name, Manchild, in this list and was blown away! Roderick O. Solomon as one of your favorites with Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, Toni Morrison, C.S. Lewis, Alice Walker...OMG!!! I can say as his wife, I am honored for him, and he is flabbergasted...and honored, of course...thank you so much for blessing him with your encouragement and thumbs up!
  • Sabrina
    I love Judy Blume!
  • tee hee hee...you are great, too!
  • I am reading 3 books right now! One is in the car, one by my bed, and one in my carry all bag! Now that I'm at home, though...I need to settle it down!
  • You are great :-)
  • LOL!!!! I always said we were a lot alike! I was in the car with my mom Friday and we were somewhere waiting for my sister, she turned and said what are you reading (mind you there was no book in my hand), I said nothing. She laughed and said Regina what book is in your bag today! (I did have a book in there but I would not give her the satisfaction of pulling it out) My fingers itched for 15 minutes till my sister showed up!!!!!
    Anyway,

This was a hard list to whittle down, I agree!

I have heard Dyson speak but never read anything that he wrote, I my have to do some checking into that.

    Love Ya!
