I’m Sick Of This Sh**

President Obama has been in office for 41 days. And the onslaught of racist overtures and outright offensive images have been in full display. Take the following picture:

What you are looking at is a window display at a Barnes and Noble store in Coral Gables, Florida. Someone (I’ll get to the discussion of who in a bit) put that book with the monkeys on the cover in the middle of this display of Obama books.

Now, who did this? The store’s spokesperson issued the following statement:

“We believe that a customer played a cruel joke and placed an inappropriate title in the front window of our store…we are looking into it and are taking the steps necessary so that it does not happen again.”

So either a dumb ass customer did this (how did they manuever their way to the window display to do it?) or a dumb ass employee did it (I think I believe this one more)…either way it goes, what’s the point?

I’m of the belief that the whole “call Black folks monkeys” shit is over. Through. Done. Calling races names and trying to demean them by comparing them to non-human entities does nothing to me any more. Because I know for a fact now that I’m beyond responding to shit like this. I know now that I can rise above this and do whatever the fuck I want to do. Be whatever I want to be. Calling me a monkey is not going to stop me…in fact, you may just be calling this monkey your boss one day, bitch…or even your President.

Chew on that.

No need for me to do that...as with most corporate companies, I would make the natural assumption that few of their management would be non-white.

But that's not my point here. My point is that these types of incidents are meant to demean and incense...and we somehow have to take the stance that they no longer do. Either we allow it to motivate us to do something, or we let it stifle us to stay complacent.
