I bet you thought The10Spot was gone…nope, just on hiatus. Just a note, though: The10Spot may not be 10 anymore (that takes too long)…we’ll just see where it takes us, yes?

Let’s roll…

7 - This Time

John Legend sometimes hits and misses with me. This song is a definite hit. It is a soaring and beautiful love song…and amazingly, these songs are a rarity these days. What happened to the days when you could turn on the radio and hear a song about your heart, and love, and pledging love forever?

6 - Miracle on the Hudson

I watched this and to this day, remain in awe. The pilot is to be celebrated for his calm during this…I don’t know what else to call it but a miracle. I have seen miracles in my day, but this? Awe-inspiring.

I saw this pic and it struck me as a testament to the fact that all the passengers on this plane survived. To see them standing on the wings of this plane, in the middle of the river…

5 - MC Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix has retired from acting and has returned to what he says is his real love…music. To show his commitment to his music, he recently gave a performance at a Las Vegas club.

“After all the years of reading scripts and reading lines, this is my chance to do something straight from the heart and put it out there,” he said. And why hip-hop? “When I was young I liked punk rock music but then I discovered rap. I love the storytelling aspect of hip-hop.”

With brother-in-law Casey Affleck (who’s married to Phoenix’s sister Summer) capturing the action for a documentary about his journey into the music world, Phoenix took to the stage and performed three songs from his upcoming yet-to-be-titled album.

So everybody loves Hip-Hop, right? Right…

4 - Obama Express

It was one of those rare moments, watching Obama ride into Washington D.C. on the train. I saw him and Joe Biden waving from the back of that train, with those wide smiles on their faces, the embodiment of the change and hope that we have heard all throughout the campaign. And I all of a sudden felt a wave of fear go through me. I have ridden this ride since its inception, and have shoved those fears aside and kept my face to the light. But today…those fears crept in like an unwelcome visitor and I could do nothing to get rid of them. It is not fear of harm to Obama…no, it is fear that he won’t be able to deliver. There is a lot of responsibility that will be put on his shoulders come noon Tuesday, and I know that he is fully capable. I have no doubts about his intelligence, or his wisdom, or even his uncanny ability to ask for help when he needs it. The fear is that maybe our expectations are too high. He is a human, and he will make mistakes, and I fear that he will be shamed and persecuted for even the slightest hiccup. Not by the right (because you know they are watching with hawk eyes), but by us, his supporters.

But then I listened to him speak at the stop in Baltimore and the fears subsided. I know it won’t be easy, and I know that this job is one that I would not wish on anyone…but this man, I believe, is the right person at the right time. And I believe in him completely.

I love these commercials…

2 - MovieWatcher: Notorious

notorious

I thought I would just include this here instead of doing a separate post…it will be short and sweet. The movie was probably a 6. The dude that played Biggie was convincible, but Biggie wasn’t that attractive. I understand how he drew people in with his charm and everything…but the way he treated women (as displayed in the film) was abhorrent. The music was nice, and the movie took me back to a time that made me uncomfortable. I mean, looking back on this time in Hip-Hop history just reminded me of how trivial and insane all that East/West coast bullshit was. The one thing that I want to say is that there is no way in hell, no matter how hard they try, that anyone is going to convince me that Puff and Biggie’s hands were clean during all that shit. The movie clearly tries to make it seem that way. I don’t like the way that Pac was portrayed in this movie…like he was this paranoid schizophrenic maniac. I don’t like the way Biggie was painted out to be this martyr, even though he treated women like shit, and dealt drugs out his mother’s house, and cheated on Faith constantly. All I’m saying is be real with that shit. Don’t paint the shit red when it really is purple. But I really shouldn’t have expected anything else, with his mother and Puff producing the film.

6--Amazing! God had his hand on that pilot!

5--What in the...you know what? Never mind.

4--I've had those thoughts from the beginning. Time will tell.

3--I LOVE THESE COMMERCIALS! Between Candace Parker, Serena Williams, Usain Bolt, Muhammad Ali, and the JabbaWockeez, I am amazed.

2--Notorious, well...while I loved Biggie's music, I have no thoughts of martyrdom for him. I do, however, think it's sad that the movie can't just be something that is enjoyed for what it is. There have already been reports of fighting at the showings.

1--It is? How can you tell. That child is gorgeous!
  • Hey Sabrina!

    6 - Absolutely amazing!

5 - That is the exact same thing I said...

    4 - One day at a time...

    3 - Aren't these great?!

2 - I was a latecomer to Biggie's music, and although I thought the movie was good...it just provided a one-sided view to the story. Which I guess is to be expected. And I read today about the fighting and stabbing and whatnot at the theatres...sad.

1 - Oh you know I think he is...but his skin is not that smooth and flawless...
  • I liked his second CD the best...but again, it is hit or miss with me...I have to be in a mood to listen to JL...

That was an amazing story that the pilot kept everyone safe. Truly incredible skill on his part.

John Legend is kind of meh! for me. I don't know what it is. He doesn't move me.

President Obama will be ok. He's firm, steady and has done an excellent job in managing expectations.

I've never seen the commercials. That's a new one for me.

    No comment on Biggie.

Lebron is looking polished and sophisticated there. Got a little "Mad Men" retro -stylin' going on. I dig it.
  • Interesting, I would have never thought "G" stood for Gatorade.
  • DB
    Hey M...

I don't think they tried to paint Biggie out to be a saint. I think they clearly pointed out that he wasn't that great of a dad....couldn't stay faithful to his women....and sold dope.

I on the other hand believes that Tupac was crazy. I distincly remember reading or listening to interviews from that cat and he would be a different person almost every time.

And I do believe that Bad Boy was trying to stay away from the East coast West coast thing at the time. If you don't respond after Tupac made "Hit em' Up" that takes great restraint.

    I loved the flick...didn't think I would...but I did.
  • Nice post. I just hope it will be 10. LOL. More power!
