Given that a couple of us (that I know) have recently celebrated birthdays, this post is timely (Happy Birthday, Ms. Regina!!!).

So the year is 1971…the year of The Temptations…

  • Three excellent choices. My favorite part of "Just My Imagination" is when the music builds and then Paul Williams sings the line, "Every night on my knees I pray".

"Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology") was a staple in my house back in the day. The entire "What's Going On" album is one that is solid from beginning to end.

It's hard to top Gladys Knight when it comes to conveying heartbreak in a song. My favorite line in "If I Were Your Woman" is, "You're like a diamond
and she treats you like glass".

No fair! Too much good stuff that year! This music was being played all over campus for me that year and brings back many precious memories. Great choices.
  • Those are some good choices.

Marvin made me decide to through on my greatest hits CD today when I do my house work.

    Have a wonderful weekend.
  • Happy OSF Marvalus!

Girl you know you were born in a good year, don't you. I mean D---!
Nope, it definitely was not just your imagination. These are some classic picks, no doubt.
  • Happy Birthday Marvalus! Visit me and get your balloons. All three of your selections were perfect. Marvin is my favorite male singer and Gladys is my favorite female singer.
  • And your list can go on and on with the greats.

The Temptations: Oh boy, my Dad's favorite line about them - "You will NEVER have music like this!!!"...lol

Marvin, oh Marvin. The words escape me...could you imagine what he would be churning out now if he was still with us?

Gladys: Well that lady will forever be a voice to reckon with. Effortless singing.

3 great picks lovely. What can I honestly say?
  • I may have to amend my statement. '71 was a damn good year! Whew! Listening to all three of these picks sent chills up my spine. Happy OSF indeed :)
  • A very merry Birthday to you, Ms Marvalus! And a Happy Birthday also to Regina and Malcolm.

My gift to you all: The Beatles singing the classic Happy Birthday song!
  • Dee
I LOVE THE 70's!! The temptations were the group at that time! great choice for OSF!
  • The Temptations put it down! That's what i call a performance, lol...that song will forever be classic
  • Great picks! You know I'm a Marvin STAN!!
The Temps were some hard working brothers! Hits in my birth year, yours and probably everything in between.
When picking my video I came across a clip of the Temps movie so tonight I have to watch it and the 5 heartbeats!
    Have a great weekend!
  • You already know Just My Imagination is my favorite song of all times, I think that's one of the songs that helped start this meme. This is another song my mom and I use to sing on road trips before she passed.

During the election this year, that Marvin Gaye song was timeless. I felt like he wrote it today, it was so relevant. Will forever be the non-classic classic.

"If I were your woman, and you were my man", you were born in great year. I had to really search through some stuff to find the good ones in my year.
  • great choices ms m, I most especially enjoyed ms Gladys knight
  • Happy Birthday!!!!!
  • while i am not familiar with the glady's night song, i do dig the other two-i've heard them over a million times in my 29-years of living.
  • aj
Those songs remind me of when I was a kid and my Mom would throw parties and make tuna fish and stuffed jalapenos - what good times those were!

Happy Birthday Girlfriend! 1971! Now what was I doing in 1971? Can't tell it here but suffice it to say that it was a very good year!
  • Hey Marvalus, In order to load a player with more than one video, you must go to You Tube:

    1. Create a playlist of the songs you want in your player.

    2. At the top of the screen under account select the option MORE.

    3. Under MORE you will find the Custom Video Player option, click on that.

    4. Click on Create a Custom Video Player.

    5. You name your player, select the color and the layout (choose the first layout).

    6. Choose your playlist from the list and click on generate a code.

You tube will generate a embedded code for you to cut and paste in your blog. I hope this helps.
  • All three are great selections but for me, Gladys runs this. :)

    Happy OSF
  • Happy Birthday, Chick! These songs and these artists are heavy hitters.
  • I so missed it this week with school, library and friends from out of town.
    Love those choices.
  • Marvin is a must in any OSF line up! The video montage for Mercy Mercy Me was a perfect ending for today.
