Governor David Patterson said it like no other: “If John McCain is the answer, then the question must be ridiculous.” Wow…if that doesn’t sum it up, I don’t know what does. We have just witnessed history this past week folks, and I am proud, proud, proud. Not just proud to be a Black woman, not just proud to be an American, but proud to be alive and able to pitch my vote for someone who I honestly believe in for only the second time in my life (the first being Bill Clinton).

My son and I sat down and watched Obama’s speech last night and I have to tell you that I was touched, moved, awed, inspired, and even a little surprised by how forceful he seemed at times. This was the Barack I needed to see, and he delivered what I wanted…nay, needed to hear him say. I needed him to bite into John McCain’s ass like he did last night, I needed him to stand up straight and go at him like Michael Jordan used to go at his defenders on the court: no fear, no hesitation, I’m going to the hole…you are either going to move or get run over. Last night’s acceptance speech didn’t feel like smoke-blowing; and believe me, I have listened to every Obama speech I could get to my TV to view. No, last night felt like I was watching someone who knows his purpose. You see, I’m all about stepping into what is planned for you. And there is absolutely nothing that can change my mind that this is for him.

During this convention, as I stayed glued to my television, I once again reconnected with why I am a Democrat (and no, I’m no longer shy about proclaiming it loudly). Yes we fight and we have a frustrating way of coming to unity, but in the end, I believe that it really is about putting the people first. Otherwise, there is no way that HRC and Bill Clinton would have delivered such emphatic endorsements. There is no way that Biden, once an opponent, would be the Vice-Presidential nominee. Now I am not so naive to believe that there are not backroom deals that have been arranged in order to come to such unity; but you know what? Compromise is necessary to assuage what must be a painful realization that what you believe to be yours is not (HRC) and what you believe is due to someone you love is snatched (Bill) and watching someone fresh and new and exciting come along and steal the show (Biden)…so it is what it is.

I was reading blogs on news articles and one person just came straight out and said, “No niggers in office…” Of course, they wrote it so it would pass through the scrub that the online news sites use to monitor, but you could see it…it was right there. I was absolutely disgusted, but not surprised, and honestly expect it to get a lot worse before it gets better. But if I have learned nothing else throughout this process is that you must keep your eyes faced forward and keep your feet moving.

John McCain’s pick for Vice-President has me both concerned and giggly. Concerned because those crazy ass HRC supporters that were already switching now have a woman to stick to on the Republican side; giggly because I don’t think there are that many of them that are that stupid to risk what is at stake to vote for him. These next 2 months should be very interesting…get ready for the ride!

BTW, I love C-SPAN…no more CNN, MSNBC for me. I got convention coverage with no bullshit from any of the anchors…me likey!

My favorite line from Obama’s speech:

I get it. I realize that I am not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don’t fit the typical pedigree, and I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington.

But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the naysayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me; it’s about you.

See you tomorrow at The10Spot!

I thought I was going to miss it live so I dvr-ed it. But, as luck would have it all the stars and the moon lined up just right for me to watch it live. What a great and moving night. Still get the chills just thinking about it.

There were so many great lines in his speech. I was so glad to hear the "Southside of Chi-town" come out. I knew he had it in him. So the "cave" line had me hollering and the "that's a debate I'm willing to have" had me jump right out the chair. That line, Chi-town translation: "Feeling froggie? JUMP!"

You right about C-Span - now they are truly FAIR and BALANCED. And you already know how I feel about Palin. Yes, the next 2 months are going to be something else.

D - I am absolutely hooked on C-SPAN now! I happen to think that Obama/Biden are the ones! Of course, I am biased, but looking at the two of them together, they fit, you know? It is almost musical...

Love C-Span and wouldn't have watched the convention without it. Biden was a good choice. He helps O neutralize the "lack of experience" "lack of foreign policy" meme. It is null and void esp. now that McCain has Miss Alaska on board. This should be quite interesting.

Coop - C-SPAN was absolutely awesome! I can't believe it took me this long to finally see the light...I wish the same thing about the facts; our minds get so clouded by the bullshit, it is unreal...

Mike - Me either...it should be very interesting...

B - I don't think so either. I like to think that people who think like the "office" person are in the minority, but they still remain a threat to us as a whole, no matter how few they are...

    I'll be right there!
  • I don't think I've ever heard, read, or seen so much controversy in an election.

Regarding "the office,” it’s truly sad that folk still think like this.

When you have a minute, come by to share your view on a disturbing video I found on YouTube.
  • I cant wait for the debates.
  • C-Span was such a relief wasn't it.

Though I know the convention is theater I was always a little surprised by it's staged drama. I was 18 last time and maybe not watching the convention as closely. I was finally glad to have his speech. It was very good. But I want the convention to all be over and the next two months to begin, the debates, the campaigning. I just wish that we had a system where facts always prevailed.
