The King of Pop Is 50!!

Since tomorrow is OSF, I thought that I would do my tribute to Michael Jackson today. Tomorrow is MJ’s 50th birthday…wow! It just doesn’t seem possible that little Michael Jackson is going to be 50…

Now I don’t want to get all into the bullshit of late that he has been through; all I want to concentrate on is the music. Remember where you were when you first heard “Billie Jean?” Or “Beat It?”

You know you either had one, or really wanted one of those red leather jackets with the zippers (I had one!). And who can forget the mini movie that was “Thriller?” At the time of its release, Michael Jackson was on top of the world and there looked to be no end to his dominance.

The videos, the performances, the music…all contribute to the icon that is Michael Jackson. Happy 50th Birthday Michael!

Cynthia - I so agree with you about MJ and the music...you simply cannot take that away from him...

Malcolm - The music is all that matters in my mind...regardless of how he has lived his life, and how odd he may seem, it is the music that deserves the bigger attention!

Thanks for writing a post about MJ and focusing on what's really important... the music. For some people, all they wanna focus on is Mike's personal life and some of the odd things he's done.

Michael has give so much to pop music. No one can ever take that away from him. I've always loved "Off The Wall" more than any other album. It was his solo introduction and I still jam to that album to this day.

I remember being blown away by "Beat It". I was sitting in my house watching MTV(when they didn't play Black folk)and thinking this video was the coolest thing ever. Slick choreography, great music and lyrics. Wonderful storytelling. MJ videos used to be an "event".

I don't care what anybody says, I love me some Michael Jackson...his music alone and career speaks for itself. It's funny he and my daddy are two days apart! It's funny looking at them two because MJ's 50 and my pops 50 are two different things all together!
