I feel like writing today…so hold on to your eyes! I will start with the 10Spot to see if I can get it all out here, that way I won’t go off on a tangent…
I heard this over at Mike’s spot…he has the best playlists! There is something about Seal that is warm and sexy and cool. This song just wraps me up and makes me feel like I’m being hugged by the strongest pair of arms on Earth…

10 – I Could Look At This All Day
I don’t really like Nelly; but damn, you gotta give props when they due…
9 – Brett Far-vra
You know I love football, right? And I am severely troubled by this situation in Green Bay. Brett Far-vra was my quarterback in my fantasy football league last year; got me in second place. Besides that, I have always liked him. Anyone with that much passion for what they do will always have my admiration. He retired last year in a flurry of emotion and tears…now he wants to change his mind and come back. He’s done this thing before, folks…and I think I understand how hard it must be to let go of something that you love. But I think it is time for Brett to pass the football to someone else. Why cause all this discord? Why make the fans choose sides? Plus GB has offered him $20 million to stay retired…I know it’s not about the money but come on, dude. I read somewhere that Brett seems to think that the team is the “Brett Favre Packers,” not the “Green Bay Packers.” I think that is a true assessment of how he is acting. Let it go, Brett…let it go.
8 – Foolishness!
The Jolie-Pitt twins, Knox and Vivienne (I kinda like those names, though), will be featured in People magazine. The mag reportedly shelled out $14 million dollars for the pics…$14 million?!? Outrageous! For some pictures of two babies! Although I give props to Brad and Angelina for using the money toward their charity, it is utterly ridiculous to even play into this bullshit. But really, it is the fault of society…too many people setting these celebrities up on pedestals and treating them like they are larger than life.
7 – Cougar-itis Strikes
I’m wearing the sign, apparently…I haven’t been initiated (you know what I mean), but I must have the look because this past week, I’ve been hit on by 2 younger men, both of whom work in the same building as me. One even went so far as to slip me his phone number. Now, here’s the dilemma: I’m considered a member of management…they are worker bees. Even if I was interested (one of them…no; the other…maybe), I will not compromise my position just for some fresh meat. I must err on the side of caution. Besides, I’ve already been down that road of being involved with someone you work with…not cool. So the little boys will need to move on to the next one…this cougar is not the one.
6 – Who’s Gonna Save My Soul?
This is the creepiest video that I’ve seen in a long time…but it tells the story brilliantly. Gnarls Barkley is on some other shit right here…me likey.

5 – Daddy Dearest
Thanks to Villager for the link…Model Extraordinaire Tyson has spoken out on the “baby daddy” syndrome. He isn’t saying anything that we have not heard any other responsible man say; but I think as more and more men stand up and show that they are taking care of their children and being involved, it will become the norm, instead of the exception. I give kudos to him for presenting a positive image of a Black man that debunks the myth that they don’t raise their children. There are some who do…
4 – Obama And His Hecklers
Obama was asked questions at a recent appearance in St. Petersburg, Florida by a group of African-Americans who brought up the argument that he ignores Black issues. They say it was “heckling”…I’m guessing because the group asked their questions out of turn and in a loud and obstinate way. Yeah…OK. Here is the deal, folks…Obama is not running as President of the Black United States. Yes, there are issues that are specific only to Black Americans, but would those issues not be solved by legislation that would counter shady ass mortgage lenders, crime laws, education reform, etc.? Is that not what he would bring to the table…consideration of everyone when these laws are passed? I just think that our expectation is that he will come in and rescue us, when we should be focusing on bringing ourselves up. I don’t mean to say that we don’t need a helping hand, but relying on someone to work outside the parameters of the laws of the land to focus on one specific group is unrealistic. I do need Obama to be proactive when addressing these urban concerns; but I’m not anticipating him to rescue Black folks…that’s not what I believe he is here for.
3 – Wal-Mart Is Kinda Shady
In this article, it is alleged that the management of Wal-Mart sent out word to their workers, urging them to vote against the Democrats in November. There apparently is a bill, co-sponsored by Obama, that would allow labor organizations to unionize workplaces without secret ballot elections. Wal-Mart has long resisted unionization, saying that it would hurt its workers, so there is reason to believe this story. Wal-Mart has said that they discussed the bill with their employees and made their stance known, but has stopped short of recommending who their employees vote for…suuuuure.
2 – HIV and Women
Why do we continue to put our lives at risk? Use your mind, and not Ms. Kitty…and make that dude wear a condom! The statistics are staggering…Blacks account for 45% of new HIV cases, and get HIV at a rate of seven times higher than their white counterparts…think about that, please.
1 – Retail Therapy
