There is such a diverse mix of acts that have been on the Motown label that this was pure joy for me! I spent most of my time just pulling up vids and getting my groove on!

But I have to go with JG…I have loved him since the beginning. There is magic in his voice. A man that can sing…what!? I’m an easy target for one of those…

  • Great choices. There are way too many choices though.
  • jgill has been around for a minute and these are some great pick marvalus.

my two favorite songs by him are definitely "fairweather friend" and "perfect combination" with stacy lattisaw.
  • Mr Gill's voice is awesome. I wish he would record again. We need artists that can really sing without all the studio engineering.

My favorite is still My, My, My; it was good to hear his other songs. Thanks for posting these videos.

    Happy OSF.
  • Johnny Gill is definitely a bad dude. My favorite song by him is "The Floor". I was disappointed when it wasn't one of his solo tunes included on the New Edition Gold 2-CD set.
  • JG did Motown some justice. He was part of the new Motown era, but still encompassed the old Motown appearance, walk, talk, etc. Nice selection.
  • Happy OSF! Love J Gill! Great pick! He had major swagger! He bought a whole new level to New Edition! I was going to post Marvin Gaye (I've been in a Marvin mood lately) but...
  • I don't know these songs I need to research further.

Thanks for helping us get our Motown groove on! :D
  • I've always loved Johnny's voice. It was always strong and beautiful even when he was much younger. A man's voice. He had a duet w/Shanice called "Silent Prayer" that kicked ass.

    Good stuff Marva.

    That's great

I keep forgetting Johnny was on Motown. You are right, there were so many different artists on that label. Love me some Johnny. I would love to see him and NE again live.
  • I'm still stuck in the past so the retro Motown is my music but, yup, that man gotta voice!

I'm more of a sucker for a guy who can cook though!
  • I'm not too familiar w/ a lot of his music but i do like his voice. Happy OSF!!
  • Hmmmm. Mixed emotions about the Gill, but he is a good singer.
  • Hey now! You can't go wrong with Johnny Gill.
  • Excellent choice! Johnny's voice is so soothing. He just makes you want to stop whatever you are doing and get into the moment.
  • Old Fan. New Edition. Boston.

Great pick. I didn't know how many artists are on Motown.

    Have a blessed weekend.

I was surprised that one who has had my ear this week is on Motown.

Traveling down the road of lives.

    You know the rest.

  • I could never get into Johnny Gill, I mean the music was good but he never made an impression on me.
  • Haven't heard any of these songs, and would probably like Johnny more is I had. I never bought the album, and all they play is My My My and Rub You The Right Way.

Thanks for bringing me something new to the table.
  • Agree with Grapevyne. Thanks for bringing something new to the table. I own Let's Get The Mood Right but don't remember that song from it. Need to take another listen! I had also forgotten JG was on Motown as well.
  • Hey Marvalus.

I think the man's voice is great, although I must confess the music doesn't get me going quite so much. But you can't deny those pipes.

    Thanks for posting!
