I had something else here, but I changed it to reflect the spirit of the day…

What Is A Dad?

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail…

@SjP - I think the absence of a father gives you two choices: you can choose to use that lack of love to tear you up or use it to build you up...I use it to love my child 10 times harder, 10 times better, and 10 times stronger than I ever thought I could...

Marva - I am so moved by your above post. Much obliged for sharing with us your most personal and deepest thoughts and feelings. This is a tough day for many of us daughters who have longed for a lasting or continued relationship with their Fathers. But, for those of us who struggle with this day - we have to - as you say, forgive and move on. That is what makes us whole again giving us the strength to provide our own children with the knowledge that they are indeed loved.
