I know some of y’all are going to be difficult and not play along with the theme this week, but I don’t even care…I happen to love the year 1971!

This is the year of Aretha’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water”…oh, can’t nobody do it like Auntie Ree…

  • Hi,
I'm a new participate of Old School Fridays thanks to da Villager. I played today with Nina Simone.

I didn't know of the theme year but I'll get it next week.
I have a new favorite day.

Wishing you and yours health, balance and joy

  • Man, Aretha did her thing! Classic!
Love Elton John, and Tina... well there is nothing that even needs to be said about "Proud Mary"!!

Great picks for this week! I googled the top 100 songs for 1971 and had fun going through the list trying to guess who would post what songs (I totally had villager pegged!!) I didn't bank on you and Elton John, that was a surprise!
    Happy OSF!
  • Good stuff! I love these selections. Regina has some good stuff as well; unexpected. I did Marvin and The Temptations.
  • aj
Girl you got it goin on over here. Aretha & Tina....memories, memories. I absolutely love OSF.
  • This song is so spiritual with the mood it evokes. I love this rendition-
  • Both classic in every single way.
  • I am behind, I need to get my song up. Today is my babies birthday, but I couldn't forget your year.

I know the routine to Proud Mary.
  • Thanks, Shae-Shae...

I love Elton, Marcus...he is just good!

Danielle - Welcome! I hope you are enjoying OSF!

Ms. Regina - I thought I would leave the Marvin Gaye to Villager as well...when I did my research, I just knew that he would pick that one!

Danielle - I'll be by in a moment to check you out...

Quick - Don't you just love Auntie Ree? And she is playing that piano something fierce!

    IW - No doubt...

Mrs. G - Happy b-day to the little Grapevine! That routine is something fierce!
  • Classics!!
  • DP
Great picks, esp. the Elton John IMO. This is my first week in the OSF, so forgive me for not posting songs from 1971. I'll get the hang of it by next week.
  • Lisa - Girl, you did it for me with the Prince!

DP - Don't worry about the 1971...not everyone got the message! Glad you enjoyed the Elton!
  • Water represents spiritual matters. I wish I knew what the songwriters intended. Even then, it could be ambiguous or have a double meaning. Interesting choice. Loved it!
  • I really think this is just a song about being there for a friend, no matter what...I just love the song because it is deep and hits a spiritual chord with me; I have a friend that I feel this way about...
