There is nothing better than a couple on screen that has chemistry…these are my 10 favorite movie couples in the roles they played…
Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps—Love and Basketball
Oh, I loved this movie…Sanaa and Omar had such chemistry together (weren’t they dating during this film?)…boy, this movie was real. I felt all those emotions, and kisses, and blow-ups through the screen…Sanaa’s Monica to Omar’s Quincy was magical and beautiful and watching the two of them fall in love, then out of love (not really), then back in love was a sight…both with basketball dreams, one failing, the other achieving…and in the end, love prevailing…beautiful.
Nia Long and Larenz Tate—Love Jones
The passion in this movie was amazing…the movie was dark and sexy, and reeked of moodiness and high-cultured brothers and sisters who were just trying to figure out this thing called love. Nina and Darius were, at the start, just kicking it…but when it is your fate, you can’t deny it. Sometimes love takes over…a love jones will overwhelm you, will take over, and you must succumb…this movie was a great example of letting yourself go and following your heart…oh and that poem, “Brother to the Night?” Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor—Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
This is one of my very favorite movies…please, back in the day, Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor were both beautiful…BEAUTIFUL…looking at them on screen, you were almost hypnotized by their attractiveness…particularly in this movie, they were spicy and passionate together; Maggie the Cat was a woman with skeletons…her husband, Brick, a man with issues…they were brought together by their love and respect for Big Daddy…and eventually, their love and admiration for each other…
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith—Ali
It was absolutely unfair to cast Will and Jada together in a movie…their chemistry is unmatched…they were beautiful together on screen…even her, as tiny as she is, next to him, as tall as he is, as Sonji and Muhammed, they were passionate and intriguing…you could see the love from her eyes to his, from his eyes to hers…the beguiling way that they looked at each other almost made you feel as though you had a look inside their bedroom…delicious!
Denzel Washington and Lisa Nicole Carson—Devil In a Blue Dress
“Oh yeah, daddy…you hittin’ my spot…” Wow…that scene was on and poppin’! Just that one little scene, sweaty and heat dripping, just made you squirm a little bit in your seat…at least I did…Coretta was working Easy on that couch, wasn’t she? And it was all while her man was passed out drunk in the next room…skank…all for some information for some half-black child who was on the lam…hmph…I’da let Easy hit it too, but it woulda been all the way, and it wouldn’t have been for no chick or for no info…no, he coulda hit for free…all night…
Loretta Devine and Gregory Hines—Waiting to Exhale
Man, when Marvin watches Gloria walk across that street and she realizes that he’s looking…girlfriend turns it on, you hear me!? I love that scene…it shows me that even though maybe she has some self-esteem issues, she still knows how to work it, still knows that she can swing those hips and make that man interested…I love it! And at the end, when she goes over to his house, and apologizes, and he tells her that he loves her, and she virtually attacks him, and very hungrily kisses him…like she has never kissed a man before…whew!
Oprah Winfrey and Willard Pugh—The Color Purple
He loved her, the big girl with the big voice and big personality…but he tried to control her and lost her. After years apart, they came back together beautifully…once they got all the bullshit out of the way, once they got past all of the other people and issues and once Harpo and Sofia grew up and into what they were supposed to truly be…they became husband and wife, finally…
Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett—Malcolm X
Oh, these two were born to play husband and wife on screen…their chemistry is fire! As Malcolm and Betty, they were calm and loving and charismatic, their love endured trying times and the scene when Malcolm is shot…absolutely heartbreaking at the amount of love that Betty shows…absolute heartbreak…
Julia Roberts and Richard Gere—Pretty Woman
The establishment and progression of this relationship was just intriguing to me. It was an actual story…fairy tale if you will…I loved how the story moved along and how Edward took Vivian in and showed her a new side of life…I loved this movie!
Sylvester Stallone and Talia Shire—Rocky
Coming from nothing, Rocky had Adrian…when he had everything, Rocky had Adrian…theirs was a love story beyond all factors and considerations…she loved him in her own shy way, he loved her in his brutish way…but it was still soft and pretty at times…
I’ve been a little lax on posting lately so I know this is late, but tell me what you think…
